Out of Sample illustrates its articles sparingly, with historical prints and paintings of early exchanges, photographs of computing equipment and objects, and a few drawings made for the site. Every image comes either from the public domain, from authors who waived their rights under CC0, or from our own work. This page lists each one with its origin.

Photographs, paintings and prints

All of the following were found on Wikimedia Commons. Public-domain and CC0 works carry no obligation of attribution, but we name their authors and holding institutions anyway, as a matter of courtesy and so readers can find the originals. The images were cropped to a 3:2 format and resized for the web.
